The chapel of Panagia Vorini is a historical and cultural treasure of Cyprus.
Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Life-giving Source, the chapel is situated to the northeast of the village, near the confluence of the Maros River and its tributary, in an area with rich natural beauty and special significance for the locals.
The construction of the chapel dates back to the early years of the Frankish rule and belongs to a time when the Pedoulas area was a royal estate due to its natural springs and the stunning valleys of Setrachos. The church is a single-aisled building with a gabled wooden roof covered with flat and hooked tiles. Its walls are made of irregular Troodos stone and are internally covered with plaster. In recent years, significant repairs have been made that have altered the character of the building.
To reach the chapel, there are two access routes that form part of the monastery trail "Churches," which connects various churches in the Pedoulas area. The first access is located 250 meters east of the chapel of Saint Panagiotis and follows a path along the river through a beautiful natural landscape with lush forests and orchards full of fruit trees. The trail is dotted with blooming cyclamens, adding a unique color to the area.
Upon reaching the chapel, visitors will be impressed by the harmony of the church with its natural surroundings and the stone-built trees that embrace it, offering protection to its history. From there, the trail continues along a paved cobblestone path along the river’s vertical slopes, leading to the village of Pedoulas. The distance from the start to the end of the trail is approximately 1400 meters, offering a unique experience to walkers who wish to discover the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area.
The chapel remains always open for pilgrims and visitors who wish to admire it.
