In the courtyard of The Holy Church of Proodou of the Holy Cross in Pedoulas, a marble monument was erected in 1999, dedicated to all the national heroes of the community. This was done as a token of respect for their sacrifice, with the aim of ensuring that they continue to serve as a beacon and compass for future generations of Greeks in Cyprus.
The ‘HEROON’, as it is called, was erected through the initiative of the ‘Association of Pedoulas Immigrants’ and the ‘Church Committee’, with funding from our benefactors Stelios Koudounaris and Panos Papakokkinos. The artistic creation of the monument was undertaken by artists A. Rallis and D. Karagiannis.
The official unveiling of the ‘HEROON’ took place on June 27, 1999, by the Metropolitan of Morphou Neophytos, in the presence of the Metropolitan of Kitiou Chrysostomos, the Mayor of Athens Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Ambassador of Greece K. Rodousakis, Members of Parliament, many dignitaries, and a large crowd.
