On Filoxenias Street, along the main road of Pedoulas, stands the bronze statue of Ethnarch Archbishop Makarios III. Positioned on an elevated marble platform within a commemorative site built with natural Troodos stone, the statue is a work of sculptor N. Kotziamanis. It stands proudly, gazing toward the Throni of Panagia of Kykkos, the site where Makarios’ tomb is located.
Near the monument, there is also a pillar displaying two commemorative plaques marking the twinning of Pedoulas with the municipalities of Trikolonoi in Arcadia (Greece) and Paiania (Athens).
The monument was erected in 1981 by the community of Pedoulas and the Association of Pedoulas Expatriates.
The official unveiling ceremony took place on August 3, 1981, officiated by Archbishop Chrysostomos I of Cyprus and President of the Republic Spyros Kyprianou, in the presence of the Metropolitan of Morphou, Chrysanthos, numerous officials, and a large gathering of people.
